Spray gel can hold it very well. Regular hairspray is too drying, and regular gel can make it look greasy, so spray gel might be perfect for you because it holds hair in place so well =)

The best thing I have found is a straightner itself. It makes BEAUTIFUL curls.

Also, try not using conditioner and letting your hair air dry. conditioner just weights the hair down and it's less likely to curl. if you use the straightner technique i would use conditioner.
another thing to consider is a body wave, which is like a mild perm.
